      High Performance Data Logger (KPL-Xv1)

      [Product description] We have developed high performance data logger (KPL-Xv1) by integrating an original real-time OS to high quality CPU board. This logger can be customized for its data acquisition, data analysis and data transmission according to customers’ purposes. The recorded data is saved in USB memory. It has 8ch of 12bit-A/D internally and can acquire data by connecting to external A/D via USB or serial. Ethernet or wireless LAN is used for data transmission. We developed this logger specifically for the high sensitivity barometer of Paroscientific Inc. (Model 6000-16B). Model 6000-16B has 12 digit effective values. In case of data transmission by binary, only 9-digit can be sent with normal 32bit format. We therefore developed the new data transmission format (64bit extension WIN format) so it can send the full 12-digit values.

      [Product description] Bibliography Search Engine is composed by three functions and can be used on the web. First function is easier search called L-Search, which retrieves targeted file among all file names. The second function is retrieve text data from all documents. The system automatically retrieves text using OCR function from PDF at fixed time every day and registers the retrieved text onto database. The third function, called V-Search, searches within text database which is retrieved from PDF.

      Earthquake Catalog Database

      [Product description] Knowledge Foresight Earthquake Catalog (KEQC) includes all seismic events (about 2.5 million events since 1983) of Hi-net which is released to the public by Japan Meteorological Agency. These data are accessible on our homepage (“K-Labo”), which can be searched by a certain time period, magnitude, depth or area. The seismic centers shown on the figure occurred during one month from December 1st to December 31st in 2014. There are 10,377 events (M:0~9).

      Smartphone Logger System

      [Product description] We have combined our technologies of real-time monitoring and comprehensive observation system with Smartphone, ultra-compact sensors and wireless communications to produce compact and lower-priced system for not only disaster prevention but also to other industries such as agriculture, forestry and fisheries. Normally, triaxial acceleration sensor, GPS, barometric sensor, temperature sensor, camera, and various communication functions are already embedded within smartphones. We are currently conducting connection test with external sensors using A/D of 12bit x 4ch and A/D of 24bit sigma delta differential input x 2ch. The acquired data is stored in SD card or internal memory and sent to the server wirelessly. We plan to develop a water-proof, dust-proof, inexpensive measurement system which is easy to install and maintain as well as comprehensive observation system based on OpenGIS.

    Our strength is an integrated ability to design and develop network and software and to monitor and process observed data comprehensively by ourselves. Among environmental disaster prevention, we particularly have good records in the seismic observation. We have been in charge for development, repair, and maintenance of surveys and research systems for national research institutions and universities. We can customize the methods of data recording, transmission and web display according to our clients’ needs. We have also developed our original data logger (KPL-Xv1) which adapts for a specialized sensor. We have established our developmental environment by adding virtualization method to 20 servers. In 2013, we have started building and operating big database in earth science field (ie. earthquakes and weather information) and continued to seek efficient usage of these data.

    We have mainly developed database system and real-time monitoring system for national surveys and research. 
    ●We create and improve the big database in the earth science field by adding original search functions (Seismic catalog: about 2.5 million all seismic events that Japan Meteorological Agency releases to the public, AMeDAS database: all events in the last 40 years, updated daily). These databases are accessible on our web-site. 
    
    ●We are monitoring the seismic data recorded at more than 40 observation points and observed data of several sensors in real time. We are recently developing more affordable, easy-to-maintain monitoring system using smartphone and cloud technology.     [Strength of products/technologies]
    Our monitoring system can handle seismic data which requires high sampling rate (more than 100Hz) and which tends to become very big in size. We can combine and display the obtained seismic data with various other data such as geographical and spatial information utilizing open source technology. We are also currently developing a real-time hypocenter determination function. In 2014, we developed an original data logger (patent pending) which can be associated with high-precision barometer (significant 12-digit) and GPS which is used by Geospatial Information Authority of Japan.  As we obtained know-hows of designing and developing hardware (logger) for specialized sensors from this experience, we believe we can adapt to any other sensors in the future.
