We promote the traditional craft of Kiryu textiles and other textile products in both domestic Japanese and overseas markets.
Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture has been known as a textile town for over 1300 years. Our company manufactures both prototype and actual textile products by making use of the area’s traditional craft of Kiryu textiles. We have participated in R&D projects with Gunma University and Gunma Prefecture Textile Laboratory. Another facet of our operation includes our functions as a trading company for Japanese and Western-style clothing, such as textile and kimono material procurement and coordination. We launched the KIRMON brand for the purpose of global marketing, and mostly targeting the French market. We will aim to enhance recognition in the global market by building on the momentum of the nearby Tomioka Silk Mill being added to the World Heritage List in 2014.
[Company strength] The Kiryu area is a production center of apparel products where multiple technologies such as kitting, sewing, dyeing, and post-processing have been passed down. This includes both Japanese apparel such as kimono sashes, kimono textiles, and other traditional Japanese goods and Western apparel such as women’s fabrics and interior materials. We believe that our strong point is that we can make use of these regional advantages to satisfy various customer needs, while offering small lot products at appropriate prices. We have applied the region’s traditional craft of Kiryu textiles to develop prototype tableware, and launched these products under our own brand. [Business description] Kiryu City has been a textile town for over 1300 years. We are a trading company specialized in Japanese and Western-style clothing. Our company provides comprehensive procurement and coordination services in Kiryu City for a wide range of textiles and kimono materials, from fabric to accessories. Our products are developed under the theme of technology and nostalgia, in which we mix the aesthetics of old Japan with the latest technologies. Our products are intended for both residents of Kiryu and customers in other regions. We have extensive know-how and connections with other organizations we have nurtured during our many years of operation since our establishment in 1936. [Industry] Textile product manufacturing and wholesaling [Strength of products/technologies] Our company has worked with Gunma Prefecture Textile Laboratory and Gunma University, and developed new textile manufacturing technologies. We can appropriately evaluate functions with scientific evidence. [Representative's message] We have participated in exhibitions in Japan and abroad, and we realized that our high-value-added Kiryu textile products have great potential in both Japanese and European markets. This feeling was reinforced in Internet mail-order transactions, which were conducted as a consignment business in France. We want to expand our distribution tools to add to Internet mail-order sales, and put more resources into sales promotion activities in all regions. The textile industry in the Kiryu area has been gaining attention since the nearby Tomioka Silk Mill was added to the World Heritage List in 2014. We want to build on this momentum in developing overseas sales channels. [Company structure for market development/overseas expansion] Our company has developed prototype tableware by making use of the traditional craft of Kiryu textiles, and launched these products under our own brand. These have been sold mainly in France under the KIRMON brand. We participated in the international Maison & Objet fair in France for three consecutive years from 2010, and also in a gift show in 2013-2014. We exhibited sample products while exploring consumer needs in Japanese and French markets. We later created brochures for suggesting uses for our products, and our sales expansion efforts are ongoing for both markets. [Market share/Ranking] There are no other manufacturers in our segment. [Awards and media coverage] [Awards] The 4th Japan’s Manufacturer Award, Excellence Award; Gunma Technology Award (2011). [Media] Asahi Shimbun; Yomiuri Shimbun (Gunma page); NHK World; The Nikkei. [Authorization/Certification] Gunma Prefecture One Company One Technology certification (2011); Regional Industrial Resource Utilization Program approval (2008).
